New Year in HK

Everything's closed!

overcast 17 °C

Written on Monday Feb 19th...
Well, I have changed hostels and am now on HK Island, up Mount Davis. The hostel is very nice, and more family oriented than the one I was previously at. HOWEVER, it is VERY far from town (ok, it's only 15-20 min, but it's way up a hill (aka mountain) and the only way to get there is via a free shuttle that only does the trip once every 3 hours). Considering that everything is closed here (think Jan 1 and 2 in Canada, but worst), I couldn't have found a better place to "be stranded" in. The view is aboslutely gorgeous (more info later on the lact of pics so far) and the facility is very confortable. Despite this, I still preferred the other hostel, as it was a bit cheaper, the crowd was more like me (young and travelling, as opposed to here, where there are a lot of people from China, "expats" and families, just here for a vacation over the New Year holiday) and I had access to restaurants and ...well city life in general (there's a great kitchen here, and you kinda have to cook your food since there's absolutely no restaurant anywhere near...cooking is, and has always been, a problem for me!) hehehe

On the topic of pics, I have taken some nice ones, but the computers here are in a wooden box, completely inaccessible, and the internet is much more expensive ($5 for 15 min as opposed to $10 for 1 hour at the last place), so I don't really want to fiddle with this right now. I have booked back at the other place starting on the 21st, and I'll make sure to work on uploading pics then! FYI, $6.5HKD = $1CAD
Hope all is well on your side!
Cheers!!
